This penthouse is designed according to the wabi-sabi Japanese philosophy, which according to traditional Japanese aesthetics is a world view centered on the acceptance of simplicity, imperfection, and transience. The belief, which centers on a person’s wellbeing through interior design, plays out in this penthouse through a neutral palette of off white and cream and earthy hues of dark browns, grays and black; materials and textures included were inspired by nature, such as textured stone, weathered timber and plaster paint made of clay, resulting in an overall ambiance to reflect ideas of simplicity and nobility. Additionally, all materials used were sourced locally, with sustainability and environmentally friendly design a key focus of VSHD’s design. The result is a penthouse that boasts luxurious lines, rich materials, and a breathtaking use of furniture within rooms with lots of negative space, endowing it with the sense of calm, freedom, and harmony
